People know 1 Cor. 13 as the love chapter, but may forget that it falls in the middle of a discussion about spiritual gifts. Paul also emphasized the centrality of love as the basis for spiritual gifts when he wrote to the Romans. Our lesson today is called "Unmasked" because Paul started our reading of Romans 12:9-21 by saying, in essence, love without pretense, without pretending, without play-acting. Let it be unfeigned, let it be real. He then tells us what love in action looks like. Ultimately, it's about taking the chance of being vulnerable.
