The Trinity: Beautiful, Baffling, and True

15 June 2025

Have you ever tried explaining something to a three-year-old, like why you have to go to work, or how a mortgage works? They might ask questions you can’t quite answer in a way they’d understand, no matter how hard you try.

Now imagine us trying to understand God.

In this Trinity Sunday message from John 16:12–15 and Proverbs 8:22-31, Rev. Donn King explores the mystery of the Triune God not as a theological puzzle to solve, but as a sacred rhythm to join. Drawing on everyday analogies (including dogs who can’t grasp human jobs) and deep theological tradition (like the early Church’s idea of perichoresis—the divine dance), he invites us to let go of needing to explain everything and instead learn to listen, worship, love, and serve.

This isn’t about figuring out the Trinity. It’s about being drawn into it.

We’ve started something different, and we think you’ll love it. Our new inductive Bible study isn’t your stereotypical Sunday School class where someone tells you what the Bible means. Instead, we’re learning a simple, structured approach that helps you explore Scripture for yourself and hear what it’s saying to you.

We meet right after Sunday morning worship, so whenever church ends, we begin—and we finish in time for lunch. Whether you’ve been in church all your life or you’re just starting to explore the Bible, you’ll find this method both accessible and eye-opening. Several lifelong Methodists have already said it’s helped them see familiar passages in a whole new light. Curious? Questions? Just email pastor.donn.king@gmail.com.

We’d love to see you in person at Lincoln Park-Lynnwood United Methodist Church, 3120 Pershing Street, Knoxville. Come as you are. We’re not in the judging business. We’re in the welcoming business.

Share this with someone who needs encouragement.
