The Last Word on Christ

This week’s message continues our series in Revelation, “The Last Word for Today,” by turning our attention to the Last Word on Christ.

We began with the children’s lesson, remembering the story behind “Jesus Loves Me.” Originally written to comfort a sick child in a novel more than 150 years ago, it became a lullaby of hope for children, missionaries, and even soldiers in wartime. Its message still calms hearts today: Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.

In the main sermon, we took a closer look at John’s opening vision in Revelation. Exiled on Patmos, isolated and cut off, John does not see defeat or despair. He sees the risen Christ, radiant and powerful, standing right in the middle of the churches. Not above them. Not watching from a distance. Among them.

As we heard on Sunday:

“Jesus isn’t a figure in the past or a rescuer parked in the future. He is present, powerful, seeing and speaking. He is standing among us, even when we’re afraid, uncertain, exiled, isolated, exhausted.”

Revelation isn’t meant to make us anxious. It’s meant to open our eyes. It invites us, as John was invited, to turn and see the voice. Christ is with us. And he is not done.

May this recording encourage you to look again, and see that Jesus is nearer than you imagined.

We’d love to see you in person at Lincoln Park-Lynnwood United Methodist Church, 3120 Pershing Street, Knoxville. Come as you are. We’re not in the judging business. We’re in the welcoming business.
