Paul wrote Philippians 4:1-9 while in a Roman prison, not knowing from one day to the next whether it would be his last. He wrote to a church facing persecution and potential extinction. Even in this situation, he still wrote, "Rejoice!" and "Be anxious for nothing." As we face stunningly disturbing news on a daily basis, we can turn to this passage to learn how to access the peace of God that surpasses understanding, i.e., peace that just doesn't make sense.
