Never Stop Praying
When I was young, I loved 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Not because of the message, but because of its length. When they handed out awards for memorizing Bible verses, this one made it easier. Three words in the King James: “Pray without ceasing.”
Had the Common English Bible been around, it would have been even better: “Pray continually.” Two words.
People have debated what Paul meant. Some have taken it to mean to strive toward a point where every thought involved prayer, that there should not be a second in which you don’t pray. Others says it means to not give up the habit of prayer (as I recall, most of the adults around me favored that interpretation).
The NIV Study Quest Bible says this: “Prayer is more than verbalized words. It is the acknowledgment of God’s constant presence and our continuous dependence on him. To pray without ceasing is to recognize that all our actions are done before God and all our conversations include him.”
In context, that makes the most sense.
Make your life a prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:17, The Passion Translation)
Peace.
