A few days ago I posted from Psalm 23, which is probably the most recognized chapter in the entire Bible.
Then a couple of days later, although the Bible contains 1,189 chapters, another verse came up from the same chapter. It’s interesting to me that the “Fear no evil” verse came up first. But this one, the very first verse, really sets the whole thing up.
No wonder the writer says he will fear no evil.
A very simple statement:
The Lord is my shepherd.
I lack nothing. (Psalm 23:1, CEB)
It doesn’t feel like that a lot of times, of course. I lack my favorite coffee. I lack being able to go to the movies. I lack the freedom of movement I had before I got old.
Oh, but what a difference it makes when I remember those simple words. The Lord is my shepherd. Not my boss. Not my spouse. Certainly I am not self-shepherding. When I remember the Lord is my shepherd, how could I lack anything of any consequence?
That completely changes the feeling, which opens me up to all the things I actually need that the Lord fulfills.
Peace.
